New sculpt

Yesterday I started on a new sculpt. Right now I´m thinking female knight but it might change during the process (the goblin was supposed to be a knight:). I´m starting up with the armature wire. I use a quite hard wire that doesn´t bend to easily when I sculpt so I get good support. But still bendable enough so I can make adjustments later on.

Then I put the Castilene in the micro for about 40 sec so it gets semi soft and then I squeeze it into small flakes which I wrap around the wire and work it. When the armature is covered I sculpt:). I start up with the basic shape and then I start to define.

Castilene

I have started using a wax called Castilene hard when sculpting . I like it! It´s harder then Chavant nsp hard and holds the form better so you don´t have to be so careful when working around the sculpt. I got really inspired looking at the miniatures at Red box games and decided to make some fantasy minis.  So far I have made three sculpts, a knight a troll and a goblin.

So it begins!

Today I start this blogg to follow my endeavors to sculpt and cast 28 mm miniatures. So far I have sculpted and cast some miniatures in pewter using silicone molds. I'm working on some new sculpts and  I'll try to show the progress here.
These are sculpted in Chavant nsp hard and some are cast in pewter. I started out with melting old leadfree pewter items that i found at second-hand but I did'nt get any good result. Best result I got with Prince august casting metal. I hope to find something similar but cheaper in the future.
