Giant

I have been sculpting on a female character. She is quite big compared to the other sculpts but I think it will work out. I´ve also got a new favorite tool, a ball stylus that I bought on eBay for about 2$ it´s awesome! About the same time I lost another of my favorite tools. It has probably slipped under the couch or something:( very annoying!

Forgotten houses

I have taken a day´s rest from sculpting and started painting some 100 year war miniatures from Zvezda. It´s for a fantasy/alternative history game project I´m trying to put together. They are 25mm figures and I´m gone use them together with some  miniatures from Red box games that are truly awesome! There is a size difference but in most cases I think it works out great.  My thought is to mix Nordic history and folk lore and make up some houses that fight for power in the outskirts of the realm.

Finish

Just some final clean up and I´m done with the thief! I have added a sword and bag. Then I worked some with putting seams on his clothes. I think it did a lot to define him and I´m thinking about going back and do the same with the other sculpts. This was a really fun sculpt to make and I have decided to make more dynamic poses in the future even if it means more work with the molds! :)

Pickpocket

Some more pictures from my thief sculpt. I have worked some more on the leather armor and added the hood and hands. So far I like it:). I´m gone work some more tonight I think and add some small bags around the belt and maybe a dagger or two. Then I´m gone put some work in getting rid of the grittiness and polish him up.

Thief

I have started on two new sculpts. One a thief and the other I don´t know yet. The thief is gone wear a hood and have is hand stretched out like he is about to grab something. Otherwise I´ve been thinking about building a spin caster and yesterday I  made some sketches. Kind of rough yet but I think it would work. The goal is to build something that is cheap but works:). I´ve seen some tutorials online how to make a potters wheel and I think that´s a good start. I will be using silicone molds so no worries about vulcanizing rubber and such.

Head

I have been struggling with the warrior. My main problem has been getting the face right. The first one  was to big and looked like a old king from the 17th century and that was not what I was after. The second one was also to big and the helmet did not turn out like I wanted. I think the third one turned out to be more what I had in mind. I still have some work to do but it´s a good start. I´m looking forward to cook some wax. I like the Castilene but I´d like it to be harder, right now it´s to easy to mess up when I´m working around the model.
Wolcott: And do you think this hat makes my head look big?
Eb farnum: No sir. It makes your head look the perfect size.

End game

I´m about to finish the goblin and the princess. I´m just gone polish them some to get rid of the grittiness. I think I´m gone make a test mold of the goblin. I have some ideas how to make things better then previous ones that I´d like to test out. I will document it so that I can share the process here later on. But before that I think I´m gone work some more with the fighter.

Wax

I have started a new sculpt. I´m not done with the last one yet but I have a habit to always try to have something more in the pipeline. I think this one will be more of a fighter/rogue kind of guy but it´s still to be seen. I have read a lot of good stuff about sculpting waxes from Willow products so before Christmas I acquired some wax recipes from them. Yesterday I ordered the ingredients for one of there waxes which I think will work great with miniature sculpting. It took a lot of ebaying to get it all but I think I got it all now. I will do a followup later on.

Sword

I´ve started working on a sword. I used a piano wire that I got over from making my loop tools as a base. You can check out how to make your own here. I use mine all the time and it´s cheap :) ! I made a shield as well just to se if it would fit the model.

Crown

I took some time yesterday to add the second shoulder and the crown. It was more challenging then I thought. I had to work hard on making the castilene stick properly and when I finally did I had messed up the model so I had to do a clean up. I think I have to learn how to weld wax:) I added some hair but I think I will make some more changes to it cause I liked it better before. I will sleep on it.

Progress

I´m continuing my work on the "female knight". I was watching snow white and the huntsman while sculpting yesterday and I really like the crown the queen has so I´m considering adding one later on. I´m adding features to the sculpt like armor parts and clothes. I try to be methodical and dress the sculpt layer upon layer. It makes things easier in the long run.

Sometimes I get carried away though:). Like now when I started out with the face. I start out with marking out the eyes, nose and mouth so I got some reference. I use a string of clay to add a nose and add some volume to get something to work with when sculpting the lips and chin.
I cut out the lips with a knife and gently sculpt the face. It´s good to be methodical and try to get the overall shape before going to much into detail. I think it´s It´s very easy to make mistakes while sculpting faces in this size but I try to see them as part of the process and just carry on till I get something I like. At one part of the sculpt the face looked to big for the head but when I added some hair I think it worked out. I´ll leave the face for now and get the other parts in place.
